Mother & Son Conference
Dear Colleagues & Volunteer:
Mothers Raising Sons (MRS), Inc. is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization. MRS has been operating in the Atlanta metro area since 1999. MRS mission is to establish, educate and empower proper guidance for positive family structure by assisting single parent family households in achieving success and in raising our youth. MRS purpose is to provide the boy being raised by a female with the foundation, structure and independence needed to achieve their full potential of becoming productive, respectful, responsible and successful adults for their family and community.
MRS would like to submit an informative conference proposal in a cooperative effort to produce, promote and coordinate:
Mothers & Sons Conference “To Cause A Change”
June 4, 2011 Sat. 12:00 - 7:00 pm
Clarion Collection Sundance Plaza Hotel Spa & Wellness Ctr.
3050 University Pkwy, Winston Salem, NC 27105
The essential purposes of conference are designed to disseminate information, generate new ideas, offer support, and help attendees to be on the right course. It is cost effective to spend money on juvenile males for prevention then spend on taxes in the justice system.
MRS is excited to create the opportunity and requesting your assistance in support of this youth and family development initiative. We are contacting businesses to solicit their support in helping us to meet the “crucial” need in saving our boys to men. Your sponsorship is vital in the prevention of our male youth entering the juvenile justice system and domestic violence. Our joint efforts would be helping to introduce participants to enriched, educational and rewarding life skills. We are asking and seeking: male speakers, youth organizations partnership, sponsorship, talent for entertainment, financial assistance and moral support.
For additional information on how you/you business/organization can become part of the solution, “To Cause A Change”, please email MothersRaisingSons@gmail.com or(404) 247-1086 1-866-611-4677.
In Loving Service for our boys to men
Sincerely yours,
Lisa Norwood,

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Mothers Raising Sons, Inc., (MRS) was incorporated as a 501(c)3 in the state of Georgia in December 1999 for the purpose of providing parent education and youth development services to single-mother families in Georgia.
What is your primary product or service?

How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
As a single mother of three boys, Lisa Norwood, Founder and CEO of Mothers Raising Sons, Inc., personally felt the need for greater support as a parent as well as the need to find positive male mentors for her sons. Her work as a supervisor in the DeKalb County Juvenile Court System, however, was the catalyst for the formation of Mothers Raising Sons, Inc. Lisa observed that a disproportionate number of youth offenders were the product of single-mother homes. Through her professional observations and through an eventual analysis of her local community, Lisa recognized the need for an organization that would provide parenting support to single mothers who were raising sons and that would also provide positive male mentors and enrichment to boys being raised without the benefit of an involved father in their lives.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
The target market is for at risk boys being raised by single females (mothers, grandmothers, aunts, foster) households with low-moderate income. Single mothers of all income status have issues that need to be addressed with respect to raising their sons. A mother is attempting to raise a boy to be the opposite of her behavior, emotional and personality.
Education of life really begins at home. It is the parent’s primary responsibility to the social, moral, emotional, physical and positive values for the development of their boys to be successful men. Due to the divorce rates and wedlock; most of the time more than we would like to admit the mother is really the primary parent. But it helps when there is assistance available to mothers and sons if there is no positive male role model. Sometimes the son is resentful of his situation and rebel against the mother. A boy needs a positive man in his life to assist his development of becoming a productive successful man reducing the burden off teachers, government and society as a whole.
